This original VW thrust washer forms part of the front hub and wheel bearing assembly on early Split Screen models. It is positioned between the outer front wheel bearing and the spindle nuts, providing the correct surface for adjustment and retention of the front wheel bearing.
The washer is keyed to locate into the groove in the front spindle, preventing it from rotating with the wheel bearing. Its condition is important when correctly setting the front wheel bearing play, as excessive wear or damage to the washer can prevent accurate adjustment.
