1975 Yukon Yellow Bug

If you’ve attended any of the main Volkswagen Events in the UK over the last couple of years, you’re bound to familiar with this late bug. Taking home a considerable amount of trophys from all over the country, it’s safe to say Alex has nailed the showcar formula. Throughout recent years we have helped supply his Type 1 with plenty of Limebug goodies…

Starting with the Suspension, Alex’s Bug is running a Full Deluxe Air Kit. This kit provides everything needed to sit super close to the ground. Up front, a 4″ Narrowed Jawbreaker Beam has been added, allowing Alex to tuck some extra width into his arches. Paired with a set of MOA430 and Dropped Spindles, Alex now lays Skid Ends when aired out. Moving towards the rear of the car, the rear sits just as low, utilising our Cantilever Air Kit; further allowing that extra level of comfort on long motorway journeys.

To fill out the arches, Alex chose to purchase our very own SM35 Split Rims. Finished originally in cream, and now brown, the OE styling of this rim suit the aesthetic of his Bug perfectly. To match his fresh chrome lips and hardware, Alex added some AAC hubcaps, finished the Wolfsburg Crest.

Maintaining high standards throughout, the Bug has also recieved an abundance of Engine goodies. Starting with arguebly the most visible modification, we supplied Alex with a Fat V MST Pulley system. Keeping in with the OEM+ theme, the V-Belt looks standard in comparison to Serpentine systems, whilst still providing the performance upgrade. Lots of other Limebug goodies can be found throughout this engine bay, including a Petronix coil and black rear tinware

1968 'Pickled Perfection' Bug

Just when we thought Alex had completed the Late Bug game, he came out with his latest build, ‘Pickled Perfection’. The name stems from the car utilsing a mix of early and late parts, and it’s metallic green paint job. From a first glance, the euro bumpers and big bumpers may remind you of Alex’s 75, however the closer you look, the more you find; most prominently, the Crotch Coolers in the front wings. As of June 2025, the build has managed take home 1st place prizes at every show it has attended, including the coveted Volkworld ‘Best in Show’ Award. We are super pleased to of yet again been a big part on the chassis on one of Alex’s projects – Find out more below…

When Alex first dropped us a message about his new project, he sent us a pic of a Fully-Chromed Adjustable Beam he managed to pickup online. He opted to pair this with the MOA430 Air Shocks, to get the right amount of lift and drop needed. Moving towards the back of the car, we supplied our Cantilever Rear System, in a custom gloss-black finish. To tuck in his 17″ Splits, he added the 2″ Air Spring Plates, for a maximised drop.

Upon completion of his pan and chassis restoration/upgrade, Alex came back to us with a unique Split Rim idea in mind. He requested we draw him a a design complete one-off for this build. We combined elements of a reverse dished smoothie with a modern sports wheel, in 5×130 Porsche pattern. For a classic staggered fitment, he opted for a 0.5″ lip in the front, and a 3″ lip in the rear. Check these out in their raw finish back at LB HQ further on in this article!

Throughout the rest of this build, Alex maintained his super-high standard of engineering and originality. One of our favourites is the Air Ride Managment install. Entirely from his home garage, he crafted a totallty unique air tank, which utilises the tubing found around the driver and passenger seats. Moving backwards, the Engine Bay features lots of simple but high quality parts. We supplied a range of MST Billet pieces, a long with a wire tucked Black Alternator to suit the clean stripped back look across the rest of the car.
