What does this part do on a VW?
This top pulley fits to the alternator or dynamo on air-cooled VW engines and is driven by the fan belt from the crankshaft pulley. As the pulley rotates, it drives the alternator or dynamo while also turning the cooling fan to provide the airflow required to keep the engine cool.
This stock-style replacement pulley is finished in black for an original-style appearance, making it ideal for standard engine builds, restorations or replacing a worn, damaged or distorted original pulley.
The two-piece pulley design also allows the fan belt tension to be adjusted using the original-style pulley shims. Moving shims between the pulley halves changes the effective pulley width, allowing the correct belt tension to be achieved.
