Gears and housing manufactured from high-strength 8620 alloy steel
Direct replacement for the standard differential
How the Helical LSD Works
This helical limited-slip differential is a torque-biasing design that actively distributes drive to the wheel with the greatest traction, significantly improving performance and drivability—particularly in low-grip conditions.
Torque applied through the helical gear system generates axial thrust, forcing the gears against the differential casing and creating internal friction. As torque increases, this thrust force rises proportionally, allowing the LSD to handle substantial traction imbalance, such as when accelerating hard out of corners.
At lower torque levels, the differential operates smoothly and quietly, making it well suited to everyday road use. The unit features a parallel-axis helical gear design, optimised for even load distribution and durability.
With a torque bias ratio of 5:1, the LSD can deliver up to five times more torque to the wheel with grip compared to the slipping wheel. As with all helical LSDs, some traction must be present at both wheels; however, this is rarely an issue in real-world driving. In situations where one wheel is unloaded, techniques such as light left-foot braking can help maintain effective operation.
Please Note: Helical LSDs perform particularly well when used in conjunction with modern anti-lock braking systems (ABS).
