Flywheel main oil seal, as fitted to the engine case of all 1200cc – 1600cc based aircooled engines as fitted to Beetles, T2 Split Buses, T2 Bays &  Type 3s. 

This is the Red Silicone version, a popular choice over the standard rubber seal. It has an increased lifespan over conventional rubber alternatives.

It serves an important role to seal between the crankcase and the flywheel / crankshaft, keeping oil inside the engine case. 

It is advised that 311-105-283/A (Flywheel O-ring) is also replaced.
