Professionally rebuilt OEM steering gear box for 1950–1961 Volkswagen Beetle and Karmann Ghia models using the larger spline early pitman arm.
Each unit is fully stripped, inspected and rebuilt with new OEM-style internal components, bearings, seals and gaskets. The housing is powder coated for corrosion resistance and supplied pre-filled with the correct Corn Head grease, providing a direct replacement solution to restore accurate steering and reduce excessive play in early Beetle / Ghia steering assemblies.
The new improve Limebug billet steering box cover replaces the original cast cover with a precision-machined aluminium component. It provides greater rigidity and improved clamping across the gasket surface, reducing flex compared to the factory cover. Machined tolerances around the shaft help maintain consistent preload and minimise grease leakage. The increased strength supports durability in vehicles running wider tyres or altered suspension geometry. The new cover also features 2 grease nipples, to allow for direct grease insertion (when required) – the main feature of 2 grease nipples allows the second to act as a breather.
All reconditioned Limebug steering boxes are filled with High Quality Corn Head grease. This is a Polyurea-thickened extreme-pressure grease developed for slow-speed gear housings, making it well suited to classic Volkswagen Beetle steering boxes. The semi-fluid consistency allows the grease to flow and self-level inside the steering box casing, ensuring continuous lubrication of the worm and roller assembly while remaining thick enough to stay in place. This helps prevent dry spots often associated with conventional chassis greases.
