MST Pulley Systems?
The Performance
Highly prone to belt slip/lift at high RPMs, OEM Pulley Systems can often be more stress than it’s worth. From loud engines to little cooling, the factory design is not meant for 21st Century stop-start traffic. For those looking for either an upgrade in performance and/or aesthetics on their vehicle, we can help provide the perfect Pulley Kit.
So how do MST Systems combat the issues found in the factory design?
Utilising a wider/thinner belt provides a larger contact area with the Pulleys, allowing more belt-traction. Similar to putting a low profile wide tyre on your car, this means less tyre wall slop, and more contact with the ground, creating more grip.
Why do MST use a Tensioner?
The tensioner is there in replacement to the original shims, same as with most modern engines, typically an element is movable to maintain good tension on the belt drive, normally the alternator/ water pump. However an aircooled engine does not have a water pump for obvious reasons and the alternator is fixed as is the crank position, hence the addition of the tensioner.
What is a Sand Seal?
A Sand Seal sits flush to the rear of your Crank Pulley, rather than leaving a threaded gap (OE Oil Thrower versions). The idea originally came from Sand Rails, where grit build up would jam up the threads, creating a hole in your case; flushing the oil outwards. The flush fitment of this seal prevents this, adding a rubber layer of protection between the case and pulley. A further reason to choose Sand Seal is if you’re running an Aluminium Case. With a standard Oil Thrower setup the Crank Pulley often fuses to the block, causing issues when stripping down the engine. A Sand Seal Pulley Kit prevents this, justifying the extra cost of this option.
Why choose MST?
In addition to the performance and visual bonuses mentioned previously, there are many reasons why the MST Puylley System is up there with the best available on the market. Being the top American producer since 2003, MST has been popular with thousands of different builds, from dragsters to full on showcars. With quality always their top priority, these Pulley Systems are always faultless; cutting, engraving and anodising is always at a high level.
